Physiotherapy Services in Howden
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Howden premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Howden is a small East Riding market town close to the River Ouse, dominated by the great tower of Howden Minster. Part of the minster is roofless, but the nave is still used as the parish church.
The Market Place and surrounding streets are compact and mostly flat, with cobbles in places. Walking across uneven setts near the minster is useful balance practice once people are steady on smooth ground.
In the 1920s Barnes Wallis worked in Howden on the R100 airship, built at the airship station nearby. A plaque marks his former home, and local history walks still follow the story.
The land around the town is very flat, which helps early walking. Wind across the open Vale of York can be strong, though, and we prepare patients for exposed paths beside fields and drains.
Most planned surgery for local people takes place at Hull Royal Infirmary, Castle Hill in Cottingham or York Hospital. Goole and District Hospital is also nearby for some outpatient care.
Housing ranges from Georgian townhouses near the minster to newer estates and bungalows on the edges. Older homes often have narrow stairs and step-down kitchens, which we check on the first visit.
Howden station lies a short way north of the town on the line between Hull and Selby. Many people want to manage the platform and train steps again for trips to Leeds or York.
Boothferry Bridge carries the old road over the Ouse towards Goole. The riverbank paths near it are uneven and grassy, so they belong to later stages of rehabilitation.
Knedlington, Asselby and Barmby on the Marsh are small villages along the river. Rural homes there often have long drives and gardens, and we include gravel and garden steps in outdoor practice.

Specialist care for women through pregnancy, after birth and beyond.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.
