Physiotherapy Services in Hammersmith & Fulham
Hammersmith and Fulham is a long, narrow west London borough wrapped on three sides by the Thames bend and by its neighbours. In the north are White City, Wormwood Scrubs and Shepherd's Bush; in the middle Hammersmith, Brook Green and Ravenscourt Park; and in the south Fulham, Parsons Green and Sands End along the river. This page is written for the borough as a whole. Homes just east of the borough line, around Olympia, Earl's Court and Chelsea, are in Kensington and Chelsea, while Chiswick and Acton to the west are covered by our Hounslow and Ealing pages.
We do not operate a clinic in Hammersmith and Fulham; our physiotherapy appointments are provided in patients' homes. The physiotherapist who visits may live some distance away and travel to you. Whether a visit is possible depends on your exact postcode and on who is available at the time, so please use the postcode checker on this page rather than relying on the name of your street or neighbourhood.
Two NHS hospitals run by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust sit inside the borough: Charing Cross Hospital on Fulham Palace Road and Hammersmith Hospital on Du Cane Road near White City. Many residents will have been treated at one of them, though others are discharged from hospitals across London. Home Physio And Rehab is an independent service and is not part of either hospital, the trust or the NHS. Keep your discharge letter and any exercise sheets for the first visit so your physiotherapist can see what the hospital team recommended.
Much of the borough is Victorian and Edwardian terraced streets, and many of those houses have been split into flats. That often means a shared front door, a narrow hallway and a steep staircase to a first- or second-floor flat, which can be the hardest part of coming home after an operation. Some people live in mansion blocks near the main roads, and others on larger estates such as those around White City, where lifts, long walkways and communal entrances all need to be part of the plan.
Rehabilitation goals here are often about getting back out. For some that is walking to a bus stop on the busy Hammersmith gyratory or the Fulham Road; for others it is a short circuit of Bishops Park, Ravenscourt Park or a stretch of the Thames Path, or coping with the crowds around Westfield and Shepherd's Bush. Your physiotherapist will agree realistic goals with you, practise the parts that worry you most, and change the plan as your confidence grows.
