Physiotherapy Services in Kensington & Chelsea
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is a small, densely built borough between Westminster to the east and Hammersmith and Fulham to the west. It stretches from North Kensington and the Westway in the north, through Notting Hill, Holland Park and Kensington, down to Earl's Court, South Kensington and Chelsea on the Thames. This page covers the borough as a whole. If your home is west of the borough line, around Shepherd's Bush, Barons Court or Fulham, our Hammersmith and Fulham page is the better guide, and homes east of Kensington Gardens are usually in Westminster.
We do not operate a clinic in Kensington and Chelsea; our physiotherapy appointments are provided in patients' homes. The physiotherapist who visits may live some distance away and travel to you. Whether a visit is possible depends on your exact postcode and on who is available at the time, so please use the postcode checker on this page rather than relying on the name of your street or neighbourhood.
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on the Fulham Road is run by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and many residents in the south of the borough will have been treated there. Others come home from hospitals elsewhere in London. Home Physio And Rehab is an independent service and is not part of the hospital or of the NHS. If you have just been discharged, keep your discharge letter and any exercise sheets for the first visit, so your physiotherapist can carry on from where the ward team left off rather than starting again.
Homes here vary a great deal, and that shapes what rehabilitation looks like. Some people live in mansion blocks with a small lift and a long corridor, where the first goal may be getting from the front door to the lift without stopping. Others live in tall stucco terraces with several flights of stairs and a steep step down to the street, or in converted mews houses where the living room is on the first floor. In parts of North Kensington, homes are in larger post-war blocks, and practising with the communal doors and landings matters as much as the exercises themselves.
Getting outside is often the real measure of progress. For one person that means reaching the shops on Portobello Road or the King's Road; for another it is a slow lap of Holland Park, a walk along the Chelsea Embankment, or managing the platform and stairs at a busy station such as South Kensington or Notting Hill Gate. Your physiotherapist will set goals around the journeys you actually want to make, practise them with you where it is safe, and adjust the plan as you get stronger.
