Physiotherapy Services in Helston
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Helston premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Helston is a market town in west Cornwall, gateway to the Lizard Peninsula. Once a stannary town where tin was weighed and taxed, its streets slope steeply down from the Guildhall towards the River Cober.
Every 8 May, Helston celebrates Flora Day, when dancers perform the Furry Dance through the streets and into houses and gardens. Coinagehall Street, the wide main street, has gutters of running water and many independent shops and pubs.
Loe Pool, Cornwall's largest natural lake, lies just south and is separated from the sea by Loe Bar, a shingle bank. Its wooded paths are ideal for walking practice. RNAS Culdrose, one of Europe's largest helicopter bases, is just outside town.
Housing includes old stone cottages, Victorian terraces, post-war estates and newer developments. Many residents are retired or connected with Culdrose, and steep streets can make walking challenging.
NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board plans local services. Helston Community Hospital offers some care, while surgery and emergencies take place at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. We continue rehabilitation at home.
Goals include dancing on Flora Day, walking round Loe Pool or visiting Porthleven again.
Helston's Museum of Cornish Life in the old market buildings covers mining, farming and the Flora Day tradition. The Boating Lake, with its flat lakeside path, is a gentle first goal, and Godolphin House, an ancient estate with gardens a few minutes north-west, is popular with families. The Penrose estate paths to Loe Bar and the Cadgwith and Coverack coves on the Lizard are later ambitions, as is the Culdrose Air Day for veterans and families.
