Physiotherapy Services in Hemel Hempstead
Hemel Hempstead is the largest town in Dacorum, in west Hertfordshire, and sits in the valleys of the River Gade and the River Bulbourne. It is a town in its own right rather than a suburb of anywhere else, with its own old town on the High Street and its own hospital site. Home Physio And Rehab does not have a clinic or office in Hemel Hempstead. We treat people at home, and the physiotherapist who visits may live some distance away. Whether a visit can be arranged depends on your postcode and on who is available, so please check yours with the tool on this page.
Much of the town was built as a new town after the Second World War, in neighbourhoods each planned around its own small parade of shops. Adeyfield, Bennetts End, Highfield, Grovehill, Warners End and Gadebridge are good examples, with their mix of terraces, semis, maisonettes and low-rise flats, while Boxmoor and the old town have older houses and steeper streets. Leverstock Green, on the eastern side, has a village feel of its own. We mention these only as examples of the homes we see; they are not a list of places we promise to reach.
The hills shape a lot of recovery here. A walk from Adeyfield or Grovehill down into the town centre is easy on the way there and much harder coming back, and many houses have steps up from the pavement to the front door. Your physiotherapist will look at the actual route you need, whether that is the hill to your local parade, the steps to a maisonette or the slope of your own drive, and build exercises around it.
Hemel Hempstead Hospital, run by West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, has an urgent treatment centre but not a full A&E, so people who need emergency care or an operation are often treated at Watford General or St Albans City Hospital and then come home to Hemel. We are an independent service, separate from the NHS and from these hospitals. Bring your discharge letter and any precautions to the first visit and we will carry on from there.
Common goals in the later weeks include walking round the Water Gardens beside the Gade, getting to the Marlowes shops on the bus, or managing the canal towpath at Boxmoor again. Inside the house, we focus on the things that matter most to you, such as getting upstairs to bed, into the shower or out of a low chair without help.
If you are nearer Watford or St Albans, those pages describe their own areas in more detail, and the East of England page explains how these towns sit within the wider hub.
