We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Hoddesdon premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Hoddesdon is a market town in the Borough of Broxbourne, a short way north of Cheshunt along the old road from London to Ware. Its Clock Tower stands in the middle of the town centre, and Rye House Gatehouse, the brick gatehouse of a fifteenth-century manor, is linked with the Rye House Plot of 1683, a scheme to kill Charles II.
Homes are a mix of Georgian and Victorian houses near the High Street, inter-war semis and large post-war estates in Rye Park and Wormley. Many houses have a front step and stairs, while flats in low-rise blocks may have a flight or two of shared stairs without a lift.
The New River, an artificial waterway built in the seventeenth century to carry water to London, runs through the area with a footpath alongside. Rye Meads, an RSPB reserve, and the wider Lee Valley Park have level paths for longer walks. Rye House and Broxbourne stations give trains to London Liverpool Street and Hertford.
Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board plans NHS services, and residents often go to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow or the Lister Hospital in Stevenage. Our private home visits add practical support once people are back home.
Families often contact us after a parent has had a fall or a joint replacement and is struggling with stairs or getting outside. We start with the home and front door, then work towards the shops near the Clock Tower and, later, the New River path.
