Physiotherapy Services in Horwich
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Horwich premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Horwich is a town in the borough of Bolton in Greater Manchester, at the foot of the West Pennine Moors. It grew around the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's locomotive works, which opened in 1886 and built engines for nearly a century. The old works site is now being turned into a large new neighbourhood called Horwich Loco.
Lee Lane is the main shopping street, with independent shops and cafés, and the town is fairly hilly. Rivington, just above Horwich, has the terraced gardens, the Rivington Pike tower and the reservoirs, with routes ranging from flat lakeside paths to steep climbs. Middlebrook, on the edge of town, has the Toughsheet Community Stadium, home of Bolton Wanderers, and a big retail park.
Housing is a mix of stone terraces near the centre, inter-war and post-war semis and newer estates. Many residents walk regularly in the hills, and getting back to Rivington is a frequent goal for our patients.
NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board plans local services. Patients from Horwich are usually treated at the Royal Bolton Hospital. Our private home physiotherapy continues the recovery after discharge.
Horwich Parkway station, at Middlebrook, has trains to Manchester and Preston. Patients often want to walk down Lee Lane, go to a match at the stadium or walk the reservoir paths at Rivington.
The Horwich Loco works once had its own fire brigade, hospital and Mechanics' Institute, and the terraced streets laid out for railway families around Gooch Street and Ramsbottom Road still carry that heritage. Lever Park, gifted by the soap magnate William Hesketh Lever, links the town to the Rivington reservoirs with a wide, firm avenue that suits early outdoor walks. Wildfowl gather on Lower Rivington Reservoir, and the Great House Barn café at the end of the avenue is a favourite resting point for people building their stamina.
