Physiotherapy Services in Irvine
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Irvine premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Irvine is an old royal burgh on the Ayrshire coast that was designated as Scotland's last new town in 1966. The result is an unusual mix: an historic core around the Cross and the harbour, and large planned districts such as Girdle Toll, Bourtreehill and Broomlands spread out to the east. Many new town houses have an internal stair rising from a small hallway and a front path shared with neighbours.
The flat ground by the sea is a real advantage for rehabilitation. The harbourside, with the Scottish Maritime Museum and the old harbour buildings, and the wide paths of Beach Park give level, sheltered walking that is ideal once you are steady enough to go out. Many patients set themselves the goal of walking from the harbour to the beach and back.
Inland, the Rivergate shopping centre straddles the River Irvine and links the old town with the newer side of the burgh. Irvine station, on the Ayrshire coast line to Glasgow and Ayr, is close by. Older villages such as Dreghorn and Springside have their own character, with cottages and bungalows that can be easier to adapt.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran is responsible for hospital care, with University Hospital Crosshouse near Kilmarnock as the main acute site for North Ayrshire. Community rehabilitation is coordinated by the North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership.
