Kidsgrove is a town in the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme in north Staffordshire, close to the Cheshire border. It grew around coal, iron and the canal, and its industrial heritage remains visible.
The Harecastle Tunnels carry the Trent and Mersey Canal under the hill, and the water at the northern end runs a striking orange from iron deposits. The canal junction with the Macclesfield Canal is popular with walkers and boaters.
Clough Hall Park offers open space and paths close to the centre, and Mow Cop Castle stands on the ridge to the north-east. The Liverpool Road shops and the Victoria Hall serve the town.
Homes include terraced houses, inter-war semis, post-war estates and newer housing at Butt Lane and Talke. Many streets are hilly.
Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board commissions care. Kidsgrove patients are usually treated at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, and we provide private physiotherapy at home after discharge.
Kidsgrove station has trains to Stoke and Manchester. Goals include walking to the shops on Liverpool Road, along the canal or around Clough Hall Park.
The Victoria Hall on Liverpool Road, Kidsgrove Market and the Bathpool Park lake to the south give more targets, and the canal aqueduct at Red Bull is a favourite spot for people who once walked the Macclesfield Canal. Talke Pits and Butt Lane have their own shops for shorter trips. The Harecastle Tunnel portals on the Trent and Mersey Canal and the towpath towards Red Bull locks are favourite flat routes, and Kidsgrove station links patients to appointments in Stoke and Crewe.
