Physiotherapy Services in Kirriemuir
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Kirriemuir premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Kirriemuir is a small town in Angus, known locally as Kirrie and often called the gateway to the Angus Glens. Its red sandstone buildings cluster on a hillside above the Strathmore valley.
J. M. Barrie, author of Peter Pan, was born here, and his birthplace is cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. A statue of Peter Pan stands in the town square, and Barrie gifted a Camera Obscura, housed in the cricket pavilion on Kirrie Hill.
A bronze statue of the AC/DC singer Bon Scott, who spent his early childhood in the town, stands in Bellies Brae. The Den, a wooded glen with a burn and footpaths, runs close to the centre.
Housing includes old sandstone houses and narrow closes in the centre, Victorian villas, council-built estates and newer homes at Northmuir. Steep brae streets and steps are a common challenge.
NHS Tayside and the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership provide statutory services. Kirriemuir patients are usually treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, with some care in Forfar, and we continue rehabilitation at home.
Buses link Kirriemuir with Forfar and Dundee, and the nearest railway stations are at Dundee and Arbroath. Typical aims include walking to the square, through the Den or up to the Camera Obscura.
The lower paths in the Den are fairly gentle and sheltered, so they make a pleasant first woodland walk once someone is steady outdoors.
Kirrie Hill involves a stiff climb, so we practise braes and steps nearer home before planning a visit to the pavilion.
