Physiotherapy Services in Knottingley
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Knottingley premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Knottingley is a town in the east of the Wakefield district, on the River Aire close to where the A1 and M62 meet. It grew through boatbuilding, limestone quarrying and glassmaking, and glass bottles are still produced in the town today.
The Aire and Calder Navigation passes along the northern edge of town, with locks, moored barges and a long towpath. Ferrybridge, next door, was home to the power station whose cooling towers were a landmark for decades before demolition.
Kellingley Colliery, one of the last deep coal mines in Britain, closed in 2015, and many families here have mining connections. The site and surrounding land are gradually being redeveloped.
Homes include brick terraces near Aire Street, post-war council estates, bungalows on Hill Top plus recent housing built on old industrial sites. Many houses have steep stairs and small back yards with a step down.
Knottingley falls under NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. Patients are typically treated at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield or Pontefract Hospital, and after discharge we continue treatment privately at home.
Knottingley station is on the line between Pontefract and Goole, and buses connect the town with Pontefract, Castleford and Wakefield. Common goals include shopping in the town centre or walking beside the canal.
The Aire and Calder towpath is wide and flat for long stretches, which makes it a useful place to build walking time after a joint replacement.
Hill Top lives up to its name, so people returning home there often practise the slope towards the shops in short, timed sections before trying the full route.
