Physiotherapy Services in Pontefract
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Pontefract premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Pontefract is an ancient market town in the Wakefield district, best known for its ruined castle, where Richard II is believed to have died, and for liquorice. Pontefract cakes, small black liquorice discs, are still made here, and the town holds a liquorice festival. The castle stands on a rocky outcrop above the town, and and nearby streets slope noticeably towards the market place.
Close to the centre there are Victorian terraces and older brick cottages with tight, steep stairs, while Carleton and Larks Hill have interwar semis and larger detached houses. Chequerfield is a post-war estate with a mixture of houses and flats. We look at how you move around your own home, from the front step to the bathroom, and shape the exercises to suit.
The market place and Ropergate are the usual destinations for errands, and Valley Gardens and Friarwood Valley Gardens offer sheltered paths for building up walking. The racecourse, on the edge of the town, has a long circuit popular with walkers on non-race days. Pontefract has three stations, Monkhill, Baghill and Tanshelf, with trains towards Leeds, Wakefield and York.
Pontefract Hospital, run by Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, offers outpatient and some urgent care services, while most inpatient and emergency care is at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. NHS services are planned by the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. Our home physiotherapy is independent, and we follow any precautions set by your surgical team.
