Bathurst Park, close to the town centre, has a boating lake, sports pitches and level paths. Lydney Park Spring Gardens, on the estate west of town, is known for rhododendrons, azaleas and the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to the god Nodens.
Housing includes stone cottages in the older lanes, Victorian terraces off Newerne Street and Hill Street, post-war homes and large new estates towards the bypass. Some roads rise sharply towards the forest villages of Bream and Yorkley.
