Physiotherapy Services in Markinch
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Markinch premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Markinch is one of the oldest settlements in Fife, set on a small hill beside the much newer town of Glenrothes. Its railway station serves the wider area, giving the town a steady flow of travellers.
St Drostan's Church, with its distinctive Norman tower, crowns the hill at the centre of Markinch. Reaching it involves a short climb, which we treat as a useful early test of strength.
Balbirnie Park, just north of the town, has woodland trails, open lawns and a golf course. Its main paths are broad and fairly level, perfect for gradually lengthening outdoor walks.
The High Street and Commercial Street have shops, pubs and older houses. Some pavements slope noticeably, so we practise walking on cambers and stepping off kerbs before you go out alone.
The Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy carries out most surgery and emergency care for central Fife. Once you return home, we continue the rehabilitation that the ward physiotherapists began.
Housing varies from stone cottages near the church to modern estates on the outskirts. We tailor each programme to the layout, whether steep stairs or a step into the garden is the main obstacle.
Coaltown of Balgonie and Milton of Balgonie are former mining villages a short way south east. Both have quiet streets for walking practice, though public transport is limited.
Thornton, to the south west, has its own station and village centre. Windygates lies to the east, on the road towards Leven, and many residents there travel by car.
Star is a small hilltop village to the north east with views across the Howe of Fife. Its steep approach roads make balance and leg strength a priority for anyone living there.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.

Safe, structured recovery after surgery to restore strength, mobility and function at home.
