Physiotherapy Services in Millom
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Millom premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Millom is a small town on the south west coast of Cumbria, at the mouth of the Duddon estuary. It grew rapidly in the Victorian era around its ironworks and the Hodbarrow iron mines.
The poet Norman Nicholson lived his whole life here, and his house on St George's Terrace bears a plaque. The compact town centre around it is level, ideal for early walking practice.
Hodbarrow, the former mine site, is now a nature reserve with a lagoon and a sea wall path. The flat path along the wall is a lovely route for building walking time outdoors.
Black Combe rises steeply to the north west, dominating views from the town. It is a serious hill walk, but for active people we can work towards the lower slopes as a long-term goal.
Furness General Hospital in Barrow is the main centre for surgery for Millom residents. The road journey there and back can be long, so we try to make home sessions count after discharge.
Much of the housing is red-brick and stone terraced homes built for ironworkers, often with steep stairs. We check stair rails and back yard steps closely to reduce the risk of falls.
Haverigg, just south, is a seaside village with a beach, sand dunes and an inshore rescue station. Walking on its firm sand is a good balance challenge in later sessions.
Kirksanton and Silecroft lie north along the coast, with Silecroft having its own beach and station. These small communities depend mainly on cars and the coastal railway.
The Green and Thwaites sit along the estuary roads towards Broughton, and Bootle lies further up the coast. Scattered homes there make car transfers a frequent early focus.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.

Safe, structured recovery after surgery to restore strength, mobility and function at home.
