Physiotherapy Services in Mirfield
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Mirfield premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Mirfield lies in the Calder valley in Kirklees, between Huddersfield and Dewsbury. The Community of the Resurrection, an Anglican monastic order, has its home and theological college on the hillside above the town. Mirfield grew through textile mills, malting and boat building along the river and canal.
The town centre sits in the valley, with steep streets climbing towards Upper Hopton and Northorpe. Homes include stone terraces near the centre and post-war and modern estates on the slopes. Many houses have steps at the front and steep stairs.
The Calder and Hebble Navigation runs through the town, with a level towpath that is ideal for walking practice. Mirfield station has trains to Huddersfield, Leeds and Manchester, and buses run to Dewsbury and Huddersfield.
West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board plans NHS services, with Dewsbury and District Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary serving the area. Our private home physiotherapy continues recovery after discharge.
Older patients often spent their working lives in the mills, maltings or on the railway and now live with arthritic knees or hips. Getting down the hill to the shops near the station, and back up again, is usually the milestone families care about most.
Ledgard Bridge, where narrowboats were once built and repaired, still has moorings beside the canal, and the large church of the Community of the Resurrection is visible from much of the valley. Legend places Robin Hood’s grave in the woods of the Kirklees estate, between Mirfield and Brighouse. On the valley floor, the old Calder floodplain gives some of the flattest walking in Kirklees, which suits people taking their first steps outside after a hip or knee operation.
