North Walsham is the largest town in North Norfolk, a few miles inland from the coast at Mundesley and Bacton. Its Market Cross, rebuilt around 1600 with a lead-covered cupola, sits beside the Market Place in the middle of town.
St Nicholas church dominates the skyline even though part of its tower collapsed in 1724 and was never rebuilt. The ruined section remains, giving the church an unusual profile that people recognise from far across the fields.
The town played a part in the Peasants' Revolt, with a battle fought near here in 1381. Later, the Paston School educated a young Horatio Nelson, and the school, now Paston College, still occupies a site on Grammar School Road.
The Weavers' Way, a long footpath that follows an old railway line through the town, gives a flat and well-drained route for people progressing to longer walks. Its gentle gradient makes it a popular choice once confidence has returned.
North Walsham falls under NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board. Local people generally go to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and we can offer private physiotherapy in their homes after they have been discharged.
The station on the Bittern Line links North Walsham with Norwich and Cromer. Many residents want to get back on the train to see family, visit the coast or reach the shops on King's Arms Street.
Villages such as Worstead, famous for its weaving history and great church, and Felmingham to the west have quiet lanes, but few pavements, so early sessions focus on indoor mobility and car transfers.
The old North Walsham and Dilham Canal to the south-east has towpath sections and restored locks, which can make a peaceful goal for keen walkers later in their recovery.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.

Personalised, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic support delivered in the comfort of your home by an HCPC-registered dietitian.
