Northallerton is the county town of North Yorkshire, set in the Vale of Mowbray between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Its long, broad High Street has hosted markets for centuries.
Markets are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and All Saints Church stands at the northern end of the High Street. The Battle of the Standard was fought just north of the town in 1138.
The Applegarth, a large open green near the town centre, offers level paths, and Sun Beck runs through green spaces towards Romanby. Brompton, to the north, keeps a separate village character.
Housing includes Georgian and Victorian townhouses, terraces, inter-war semis and large modern estates. Bungalows are common in Romanby and the newer developments.
NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board commissions care. Northallerton patients are often treated at the Friarage Hospital in the town or at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, and we continue rehabilitation at home.
Northallerton station is on the East Coast Main Line, served by direct services to York, Darlington and London. Typical aims include walking to the High Street markets, across the Applegarth or to All Saints.
The High Street is wide and largely flat, with benches along its length, so it suits early walks with frequent rests.
The Applegarth paths are firm and open, which makes them a good place to build up walking time after surgery.

Expert assessment and treatment of muscle, joint, bone and soft tissue (MSK) conditions at home.

Helping active people recover from sports injuries and safely return to sport and performance.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.
