We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Ormskirk is a market town in West Lancashire, on high ground between Liverpool and Preston. Its market has been held since the thirteenth century and still runs on Thursdays and Saturdays around the clock tower. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul is unusual for having both a tower and a spire, according to legend built by two sisters who could not agree.
The town centre is compact, with Moor Street, Burscough Street and Aughton Street meeting at the clock tower. Coronation Park has lawns, a lake and level paths close to the centre. Edge Hill University, on the edge of town, brings a large student population. Ormskirk gingerbread is a local speciality.
Housing includes Victorian terraces, inter-war semis and large estates at Scarth Hill and Aughton. Many retired people live in the town, and falls, joint replacements and recovery after stroke are among the most common reasons for our visits.
Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board plans NHS services. Ormskirk patients are generally treated at Ormskirk and District General Hospital or Southport and Formby District General Hospital. Our private home physiotherapy builds on their hospital treatment.
Ormskirk station has Merseyrail trains to Liverpool and a line to Preston. Patients often want to visit the market, enjoy Coronation Park or take the train into Liverpool.
Ormskirk's Thursday and Saturday stalls stretch along Moor Street and Church Street, selling everything from local cheese and potatoes to clothing, and many patients measure progress by how many stalls they can browse before needing a rest. Ruff Wood, a small woodland on the eastern side of town, and the Ormskirk Bypass greenway offer quieter walks. Nearby Rufford Old Hall, a Tudor house run by the National Trust, and the Martin Mere wetland centre near Burscough have level, accessible paths that make lovely day trips as strength improves.
