Physiotherapy Services in Wakefield
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Wakefield. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist who visits you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Wakefield is a cathedral city on the River Calder, surrounded by former mining and mill towns and villages such as Ossett, Horbury, Stanley and Crigglestone. Housing ranges from Victorian terraces near the centre and in Agbrigg to inter-war and post-war semis in Sandal, Lupset and Outwood, and newer estates on the edges of the city. Many older homes have narrow stairs and a step or two at the door.
Much of the city is gently rolling rather than steep. Thornes Park and Pugneys Country Park have level paths with places to rest, and the riverside near the Hepworth gallery is another good option. We usually start indoors with stairs, chairs and the bathroom, then move on to walking to local shops or using the bus into the city centre.
Pinderfields Hospital is the main emergency and major trauma unit for the area, with some planned surgery carried out at Pontefract and Dewsbury. We are independent of these hospitals and of the NHS, so please share your discharge information and any movement restrictions when we first talk.
Wakefield's cathedral spire is the tallest in Yorkshire, and the pedestrianised Precinct around it is level, with benches and places to stop. The Hepworth Wakefield gallery sits by the River Calder with a flat waterside route and a garden, and the Trinity Walk shopping centre is a sheltered option on wet days. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, just outside the city near West Bretton, has wide lawns and gravel paths that suit a gradual build-up over several visits. Rugby league is popular here too, and many people want to return to watching Wakefield Trinity at Belle Vue, which has terraces and steps.
