Physiotherapy Services in Pontycymer
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Pontycymer premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Pontycymer is the largest village in the Garw Valley, north of Bridgend. Like its neighbours, it grew rapidly when coal mining arrived in the late nineteenth century and the valley filled with terraced streets.
The houses climb the steep valley sides in long rows, often with flights of steps between parallel streets. Getting up and down those steps safely is one of the most common goals we set here.
Oxford Street, the main road through the village, holds the shops, chapels and the old Workmen's Hall. Its pavements are narrow in places, so we pick quieter times of day for walking practice outside.
The old railway line along the valley floor has been turned into a cycle and walking path. It runs gently downhill towards Pontyrhyl and gives a rare stretch of level ground in this hilly valley.
Most surgery for the Garw is done at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend. Once you are discharged, we come up the valley to treat you in your own home.
The colliery tips that once loomed over the village have been landscaped and planted with trees. Their grassy paths offer pleasant views but some steep sections, best kept for later in your recovery.
Blaengarw sits at the head of the valley beneath the mountain. Its community-run Workmen's Hall is a focus for local events, and getting back to activities there is a goal we often hear.
Pantygog lies just downhill from Pontycymer, joined by a continuous line of terraces. Many homes have steep back gardens on several levels, which we practise reaching safely.
Pontyrhyl and Llangeinor sit further down the valley, where it widens slightly. Llangeinor's hilltop church looks out over the Garw and Ogmore valleys from a steep and exposed ridge.
Bettws, beyond the mountain to the west, is a larger estate village with smoother modern pavements. It offers easier walking routes for clients who live on that side of the hill.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
