Physiotherapy Services in Rhondda
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Rhondda premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Rhondda is the name of the two valleys, Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach, that run north-west from Porth in Rhondda Cynon Taf. This page covers the upper parts of both valleys, from Ystrad and Treorchy up to Treherbert, and from Tylorstown to Ferndale and Maerdy.
The valleys were once among the busiest coal mining areas in the world, and long rows of stone terraces still line the steep hillsides. The Rhondda Heritage Park at Trehafod tells the story of the mines and the families who worked them.
Living on these steep streets brings particular challenges after a stroke, a fall or surgery. Many homes have steps up from the road, steep back lanes and narrow stairs, and we plan each session around the real layout of the home.
Treorchy has a busy high street of independent shops and the Parc and Dare Hall, home of the Treorchy Male Choir. Getting back to the shops or a choir concert is a goal many of our patients set for themselves.
The Rhondda valleys are served by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Residents are usually treated at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant or Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, and after discharge we can continue rehabilitation privately at home.
The railway line runs up the Rhondda Fawr to Treherbert, with stations at Ystrad, Treorchy and Ton Pentre, and buses run along both valleys. Getting to the station or bus stop is a practical goal for many people.
Above the valleys, the mountain roads over the Bwlch and Rhigos offer wide views, while Ferndale and Darran Park in the Rhondda Fach have a lake with level paths that suit gentler walks.
Rain is frequent here, so we teach people how to manage wet, slippery pavements and steep slopes safely.

Specialist care for women through pregnancy, after birth and beyond.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.
