Physiotherapy Services in Ramsbottom
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Ramsbottom premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Ramsbottom is a former mill town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury in Greater Manchester, set in the Irwell Valley beneath Holcombe Moor. The Grant brothers, mill owners and inspiration for the Cheeryble brothers in Dickens's Nicholas Nickleby, shaped much of the town. Peel Monument, also called Holcombe Tower, stands on the hill above, commemorating the prime minister Sir Robert Peel, who was born in nearby Bury.
Bridge Street and the Square are full of independent shops, restaurants and bars, making Ramsbottom a popular day out. Nuttall Park, next to the Irwell, offers level paths and sports fields, and the Irwell Sculpture Trail follows the valley. The East Lancashire Railway, a heritage steam line, has a station in the centre of town.
Housing is a mix of stone terraces, Victorian villas and newer estates, with many homes on the steep valley sides. Holcombe Brook and Summerseat have larger houses and cottages. Steep hills and stone steps are a regular challenge for our patients here.
NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board plans local services. Ramsbottom patients are usually treated at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury. Our private home physiotherapy continues their recovery once they are home.
Ramsbottom has no mainline station, so buses to Bury, where there is a Metrolink stop, are important. Patients often want to stroll down Bridge Street, ride the steam railway or walk the gentle river paths.
Ramsbottom's annual chocolate festival and the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships, held outside the Royal Oak pub, draw crowds from across the North West. The Rose and Crown sits beside the cobbled Market Place, and St Andrew's Church, built by the Grant family, overlooks the town. Summerseat's river walk under the railway viaduct is quiet and fairly level, offering a good halfway step between the flat Nuttall Park circuit and the demanding climb onto Holcombe Moor.
