Physiotherapy Services in Treherbert
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Treherbert premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Treherbert sits at the very top of the Rhondda Fawr valley, where the valley floor ends beneath steep, wooded mountains. It is the last stop on the railway line from Cardiff.
The village grew with the sinking of coal pits in the 1850s and was named after the Herbert family, who owned much of the land. Terraced streets were built tightly along the valley sides.
Pen Pych, the flat-topped mountain at the head of the valley, rises dramatically behind Blaencwm. A waterfall drops from its cliffs after heavy rain.
The Rhigos road climbs out of the valley in a series of hairpin bends, with wide views over the coalfield. It is a famous route for cyclists and drivers alike.
The old Rhondda Tunnel, which once carried trains through the mountain to Blaengwynfi, starts nearby. A local group is working to reopen it as a walking and cycling route.
Planned surgery for the upper Rhondda is usually carried out at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital near Llantrisant. Our physiotherapists then come to you so recovery can continue at home.
Bute Street, the main road through the village, has shops and chapels and is fairly level. It is a practical place for early walking practice outdoors.
Most homes are stone terraces built into the hillside, often with steps up to the front door. We practise those steps and stairs as part of every programme.
Blaenrhondda and Blaencwm are the two small settlements at the valley head. They feel remote, with forestry and mountain all around.
Tynewydd and Ynyswen lie a little down the valley towards Treorchy. Their streets are mostly level along the valley floor.
Many clients here have lived in the valley all their lives and want to keep walking to the shops and chapel. Strength and balance work helps make that possible.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.

Safe, structured recovery after surgery to restore strength, mobility and function at home.
