Physiotherapy Services in Rhosgadfan
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Rhosgadfan premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Rhosgadfan is a small Welsh-speaking village on the open upland south of Caernarfon. It grew up in the nineteenth century as a home for families who worked in the slate quarries of the Nantlle and Cilgwyn area.
The village is best known as the childhood home of the writer Kate Roberts. Her family cottage, Cae'r Gors, has been restored as a heritage centre that tells the story of quarrying life on the moor.
Houses here are scattered along narrow roads with stone walls and wide views towards Anglesey. Uneven ground outside the front door is common, so we often start by practising the short walk to the gate.
Winter weather on this exposed slope can be harsh, with strong wind and driving rain off the sea. Indoor exercise plans that do not depend on getting outside are an important part of treatment for many clients.
Major surgery and emergency care for this part of Gwynedd usually take place at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. When you return from hospital, a physiotherapist can carry on your rehabilitation in the comfort of your own home.
Rhostryfan sits just below Rhosgadfan on the hillside, with a chapel and a cluster of terraced quarry cottages. Its steep little roads make a good test of leg strength once walking has improved.
Carmel lies higher up on the moor towards Mynydd Cilgwyn, among old quarry tips and rough grazing. Paths there are stony and open, so they suit clients who are well on the way to recovery.
Groeslon, down on the main road towards Pwllheli, is flatter and has a shop and school. Its pavements give an easier route for building up the number of steps walked each day.
Waunfawr and Bontnewydd lie closer to the Gwyrfai valley, and the Welsh Highland Railway passes nearby. Getting on and off the steam train again is a cheerful goal some local clients set themselves.
Caernarfon, the royal town below, is where most people go for shopping and appointments. Its castle walls and the level Slate Quay offer a pleasant stroll for anyone who can travel down the hill.
