Rhuddlan is a historic town in Denbighshire, standing where the River Clwyd leaves the vale and heads for the sea. It has been a crossing point and a stronghold for well over a thousand years.
Edward I built the concentric castle here from 1277, and even diverted the river so that ships could reach it. The Statute of Rhuddlan, issued in 1284, set out how Wales would be governed after the conquest.
Twthill, a grassy mound just south of the castle, marks the site of an earlier Norman motte. A short path leads to its top, and many clients like it as a modest climb with a view.
The main street descends towards the medieval crossing of the Clwyd. Its pavements are fairly level, making it a sensible place to begin outdoor walking after a period of being housebound.
Glan Clwyd Hospital at Bodelwyddan, just along the A55, is the main acute hospital for the area. Following an operation there, we can continue treatment at home as soon as you are ready.
A riverside footpath follows the Clwyd north towards Rhyl through flat farmland and marsh. It is quiet, open and free of traffic, ideal for gradually extending walking time.
Rhyl, on the coast, has a long promenade with smooth surfaces and plenty of benches. Clients who live in town often use it for regular walks once their balance is steadier.
Dyserth lies to the east beneath the hills, with a waterfall in the village and an old railway trail. The trail climbs gently and gives a firm surface for longer outings.
Bodelwyddan is known for its Marble Church, whose white spire is a landmark from the A55. Newer housing estates nearby have gentle slopes and good paths for daily practice.
Kinmel Bay and the Foryd area sit around the harbour at the river mouth. Many homes there are bungalows, which simplifies rehabilitation because there are no stairs to manage.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.

Helping people living with persistent or complex pain improve function and quality of life.
