Physiotherapy Services in Royton
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Royton premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Royton, in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, grew rapidly during the nineteenth century as a cotton-spinning town, with huge mills lining its streets. Several still stand, though most now have other uses. Royton Town Hall and the Assembly Hall remain at the heart of the town, close to Royton Park.
Housing is mainly terraced, with many streets of stone and brick terraces near the centre and post-war estates in Heyside and Holden Fold. Some streets are steep as they climb towards the Pennine foothills, and many homes have steep stairs inside.
Royton Park has level paths close to the centre, while Tandle Hill Country Park, just to the north, has beech woods and a war memorial on its summit with views across Greater Manchester. Royton has no railway station, so buses to Oldham, Rochdale and Manchester are important.
The Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board oversees NHS care, with the Royal Oldham Hospital as the main local hospital. Our private home physiotherapy continues recovery after discharge.
Many older residents worked in the mills or local factories, and arthritis and breathing problems are common. We focus on stairs, slopes and the walk to the shops on Rochdale Road.
Tandle Hill has a radical past: in 1819 reformers from Royton and the surrounding towns drilled on its slopes before marching to St Peter’s Field in Manchester, where the Peterloo Massacre took place. The obelisk on the summit now remembers local men lost in the First World War, and the beech woods around it are carpeted with bluebells in spring.
