Physiotherapy Services in Selkirk
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Selkirk premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Selkirk, an ancient Borders burgh, is built on a hillside above the Ettrick Water. It grew on shoemaking and later on woollen mills, and it is one of the oldest burghs in the region.
Sir Walter Scott served as sheriff here for over thirty years, and his statue stands in the Market Place outside the courtroom where he sat. Halliwell's House Museum tells the story of the town's past.
The Selkirk Common Riding each June is one of the oldest in the Borders, with hundreds of riders following the Standard Bearer. The Haining, a country house with a loch and woodland walks, sits right beside the town centre.
Housing ranges from stone terraces and tenements around the steep Market Place to Victorian villas, post-war council homes and newer estates on lower ground near the river. Many roads climb sharply between the town and the Ettrick Water.
NHS Borders runs hospital care and Scottish Borders Health and Social Care Partnership arranges community support. Selkirk patients are usually treated at the Borders General Hospital near Melrose, and we continue their rehabilitation privately at home.
Buses link Selkirk with Galashiels, Hawick and Edinburgh, and Tweedbank station on the Borders Railway is the nearest train stop. Typical aims include the Market Place, the Haining loch or the riverside paths.
The path around the Haining loch is gentle and peaceful, which suits steady walking practice once indoor exercises are going well.
The streets up to the Market Place are steep, so we rehearse hills and steps before patients try them alone.
