Physiotherapy Services in Sheerness
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Sheerness premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Sheerness stands at the north western tip of the Isle of Sheppey, where the Medway meets the Thames estuary. Its Royal Navy dockyard, founded in the seventeenth century, shaped the town for three hundred years.
Blue Town grew up beside the dockyard walls and was named after the naval blue paint that settlers allegedly borrowed for their homes. The Blue Town Heritage Centre and its music hall recall that history.
The cast iron clock tower of 1902 marks the centre, with the High Street and Broadway holding most shops. The port still handles cars and fruit imports, and ships pass close offshore.
Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham carries out most surgery for island residents, and Sheppey Community Hospital in Minster provides clinics and rehabilitation. We continue physiotherapy at home once people are discharged.
A long concrete seawall and promenade runs from the town towards Minster, giving flat walking with views of the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery, a wartime ammunition ship still lying offshore.
Marine Town and Halfway are largely residential, with terraces, bungalows and some flats. Minster climbs steeply up to its ancient abbey, while Eastchurch hosts a memorial to early British aviation.
Queenborough, a small historic port on the Swale, is linked to Sheerness by a branch railway line that connects with Sittingbourne and the mainland.
Because the Sheppey Crossing is the only road onto the island, traffic can make hospital trips long, and many patients appreciate rehabilitation that comes to them.
