Physiotherapy Services in Shildon
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Shildon premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Shildon is a town in County Durham, a few miles south-east of Bishop Auckland, known as the cradle of the railways. Timothy Hackworth built locomotives here for the Stockton and Darlington Railway, which opened in 1825.
Locomotion, the national railway museum in Shildon, displays historic engines and carriages in a large hall beside the original line. The Soho Cottages, where Hackworth lived, are part of the museum site.
Hackworth Park, near the centre, has open grass, paths and a bandstand, and Church Street and Main Street hold most of the shops. A railway path runs through New Shildon, giving a quiet, mostly flat walking route.
Homes include brick terraces built for railway and colliery workers, post-war council estates and bungalows, along with newer housing at Byerley Park. The terraces typically come with tight staircases and small back yards.
Care is commissioned by NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. People are typically treated at Darlington Memorial Hospital or Bishop Auckland Hospital, and after discharge we continue treatment privately at home.
Shildon station is on the Bishop Auckland branch to Darlington, and buses link the town with Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe and Darlington. Typical goals include shopping on Church Street, visiting Locomotion or walking in Hackworth Park.
Locomotion has level floors, benches and plenty to see, which makes it a useful indoor setting for longer walks in winter.
Hackworth Park gives a short, flat outdoor loop close to home, which suits people building up after a hip or knee operation.
