Physiotherapy Services in Smethwick
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Smethwick premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Smethwick lies in the borough of Sandwell, on the western edge of Birmingham. It was a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution: Matthew Boulton and James Watt built engines at their Soho Foundry here, and the Birmingham Canal runs through the deep Galton Valley cutting, crossed by Thomas Telford's cast-iron Galton Bridge. The Mitchells and Butlers brewery once dominated Cape Hill.
The town has one of the most diverse communities in the West Midlands, with long-established Sikh, Muslim and Caribbean families. The Guru Nanak Gurdwara on the High Street is among the largest in Europe, and Cape Hill and Soho Road are busy with shops and food. Bearwood, around the Warley Woods and Lightwoods Park, has a lively high street and Victorian terraces.
Most homes are terraced houses with steep, narrow stairs and a step down into the back kitchen. Upstairs bathrooms in these houses are often the hardest problem after a hip replacement or stroke, so we spend time on stair practice and safe bathroom routines.
Black Country Integrated Care Board plans NHS care for Sandwell. The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, which opened in Smethwick in 2024, now provides emergency and inpatient care for the area. Our private home physiotherapy follows on from your hospital treatment.
Smethwick Galton Bridge and Rolfe Street stations connect quickly to Birmingham and Wolverhampton, and buses run along the Hagley Road and Soho Road. Typical goals include getting back to the gurdwara or mosque, walking in Lightwoods Park, or shopping on Cape Hill.
