Physiotherapy Services in Spennymoor
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Spennymoor premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Spennymoor, in County Durham, grew rapidly in the nineteenth century around coal mines and the Weardale Iron Company’s works, earning the nickname the Klondike of the north. The Spennymoor Settlement, founded in the 1930s to help unemployed miners, encouraged art and drama, and the painter Norman Cornish, a miner who depicted pit life and local streets, became its most famous member.
Today the town is mainly residential, with long terraces of brick colliery houses, inter-war estates and newer housing on former industrial land. The town hall and High Street form the centre, and the Town Hall gallery shows Norman Cornish’s work. Tudhoe Village, with its green and older stone houses, sits on the northern edge.
Spennymoor stands on a ridge above the Wear valley, so some streets are steep, especially down towards Byers Green and Croxdale. Old railway lines around the town have been turned into walking routes, and Whitworth Hall’s parkland lies close by. Buses run to Durham, Bishop Auckland and Darlington.
North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board plans NHS services, with residents usually treated at the University Hospital of North Durham or Bishop Auckland Hospital. Our private physiotherapy at home follows on after discharge.
Many older people here have joint and breathing problems from heavy industrial work. Goals often include managing stairs in terraced houses, walking to the High Street and catching the bus to Durham.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
