Physiotherapy Services in Stamford
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Stamford premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Stamford, in South Kesteven at the southern tip of Lincolnshire, is one of the best-preserved stone towns in England, with streets of honey-coloured limestone churches and Georgian houses. It became England’s first designated conservation area in 1967, and its streets have often appeared in period dramas. Burghley House, the great Elizabethan mansion built by William Cecil, lies just south of the town in its deer park.
Many of the historic houses have steep stairs, uneven floors and steps at the front door, while newer estates on the outskirts offer more level living. Some streets, such as St Mary’s Hill, slope sharply towards the River Welland, which can be challenging after surgery.
The Meadows, beside the river, have flat paths close to the town centre, and Burghley Park offers wide open walks for later stages of recovery. Stamford station has trains to Peterborough, Leicester and Birmingham, and buses run to Peterborough and Oakham.
Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board plans NHS services. Stamford and Rutland Hospital offers outpatient and day care, with Peterborough City Hospital handling most acute treatment. Our private home physiotherapy continues recovery after discharge.
Many residents want to get back to the shops around Red Lion Square, walks in Burghley Park or visits to the town’s churches and theatre. We plan sessions around those activities.
The George, a coaching inn with origins going back centuries, still welcomes travellers on St Martin’s at the southern end of town, and the Arts Centre and Corn Exchange theatre host films and touring productions. Six medieval churches survive within the old centre, among them All Saints and St Mary’s, whose spire is a landmark from the river meadows.
