Physiotherapy Services in Standish
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Standish premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Standish sits on high ground north of Wigan, a former coal and market town that has grown steadily with new housing on its fringes. The old market cross, stocks and well still stand together outside St Wilfrid's church, a reminder of the village it once was.
St Wilfrid's, with its tall Tudor-era tower, anchors the junction where High Street meets Preston Road and Wigan Road. Shops and cafes cluster around this crossroads, and getting there and back from home is a common first outdoor goal after a spell in hospital.
Housing is a mix of stone terraces near the centre, inter-war semis and large modern estates towards Almond Brook and Standish Lower Ground. Steep front paths and split-level gardens appear on the sloping streets that run down towards the Douglas valley.
Standish falls within NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board, and most people are treated at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan. Once someone is back home, our private sessions can continue the rehabilitation they started on the ward.
Elnup Wood and the old railway paths on the edge of the town give quiet, mostly even routes for building stamina outdoors. Further down, the Douglas valley and Worthington Lakes offer gentle waterside walks for people who are steadier on their feet.
Shevington and Wrightington lie to the west across farmland. Wrightington Hospital, known nationally for hip and upper limb surgery, is close by, so we often see people who have had joint operations there and want to keep improving at home.
Junction 27 of the M6 is a short drive west, and the A49 runs straight through the middle. Many older residents rely on lifts, so practising getting into and out of a car safely is often part of the plan.

Helping active people recover from sports injuries and safely return to sport and performance.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.
