Physiotherapy Services in Strabane
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Strabane premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Strabane is a County Tyrone town on the River Mourne, where it joins the Finn to form the Foyle. The river forms the border with the Republic of Ireland, and Lifford, across the bridge, is the county town of Donegal. Strabane was once a printing and linen centre, and Gray's Printing Shop, where an early printer worked, is a reminder of that history.
Housing includes Victorian terraces near the centre, post-war estates such as Ballycolman and Townsend, and newer developments and bungalows on the edges. The town is mostly on the flat river plain, with gentle slopes towards the outskirts. Raised doorsteps and steep stairs are common in the older terraces, so exercises are planned around them.
The riverside paths along the Mourne and the town park are good for building up walking, and the village of Sion Mills, with its old linen mill and riverside walk, is a pleasant longer goal. Main Street and Abercorn Square are the usual places for errands. Strabane has no railway station, so buses to Derry and Omagh are the main links.
Hospital care is provided by the Western Health and Social Care Trust, with Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Derry as the main acute site. Community rehabilitation is arranged through the same trust. We visit independently and can work alongside your community team or carers.
Strabane was home to John Dunlap, who printed the first copies of the American Declaration of Independence, and the Five Fiddlers sculpture in the town centre celebrates its musical tradition. Many people cross daily between Strabane and Lifford for work or shopping, and the bridge pavement is a common practice route. Sion Mills, south of the town, still has its striking timber-framed buildings from the old linen village, and Ballymagorry and Artigarvan lie to the north among farmland.
