Physiotherapy Services in Sudbury
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Sudbury premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Sudbury, in the Babergh district of Suffolk, sits on the River Stour where Suffolk meets Essex. Its wealth came from the medieval wool and silk trades, and silk weaving still continues here, supplying fabrics to royal households and fashion houses. The painter Thomas Gainsborough was born in the town in 1727, and his childhood home is now Gainsborough's House, a gallery on Gainsborough Street.
Market Hill, overlooked by a bronze statue of Gainsborough and St Peter's Church, hosts a market twice a week. Just beyond the centre, the Sudbury Common Lands are ancient water meadows grazed by cattle, crossed by flat footpaths and boardwalks. The Valley Walk follows the old railway line towards Long Melford and is level and well surfaced.
The town's housing stretches from timber-framed and Georgian homes in the centre to large post-war estates in Great Cornard and newer homes at Chilton. Older houses frequently have uneven floors, low beams and twisting staircases, which we take into account when planning someone's return home after surgery.
Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board plans NHS care. Sudbury patients usually attend the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds or Colchester Hospital, with some outpatient services in the town. Our private home physiotherapy continues the work begun on the ward.
A branch railway runs from Sudbury to Marks Tey, connecting to trains for London and Colchester. Many of our patients hope to get back to the market, walk across the meadows to a riverside pub or catch the train again to see family.
