Thetford is an ancient town in the Breckland district of Norfolk, on the Little Ouse and Thet rivers close to the Suffolk border. In Saxon times it was one of the largest towns in England, and the ruins of a Cluniac priory and the great Castle Hill earthwork survive. Thomas Paine, author of Rights of Man, was born here in 1737, and a gilded statue of him stands outside the Kings House.
The town is also known as the setting for much of the sitcom Dad's Army, which was filmed in the area, and a statue of Captain Mainwaring sits on a bench by the river. The riverside paths and the Nunnery Lakes reserve offer level walking, while Thetford Forest, the largest lowland pine forest in England, lies on the edge of town.
Thetford expanded hugely as a London overspill town in the 1960s and 1970s, with estates such as the Abbey, Redcastle Furze and Barnham Cross. Many of these homes are terraced houses with internal stairs, and more recent arrivals include a large Portuguese and Eastern European community.
Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board plans NHS care. Thetford patients are generally treated at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds or the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Our private home physiotherapy helps continue recovery after discharge.
Thetford station has trains to Norwich, Ely and Cambridge, and buses link the estates with the centre. Patients often want to walk to the shops, follow the river or return to the forest trails at High Lodge.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.

Helping people living with persistent or complex pain improve function and quality of life.
