Physiotherapy Services in Tranent
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Tranent premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Tranent is a former mining town in East Lothian, set on a ridge above the Firth of Forth with views towards Fife. Coal was dug here from medieval times, and in 1722 a wooden waggonway was built to carry coal down to the salt pans at Cockenzie, the first railway in Scotland.
The route of the old waggonway is now a path, and the nearby Prestonpans battlefield, where Jacobite forces defeated government troops in 1745, can be viewed from a marked site. In 1797 the town saw the Tranent Massacre, when soldiers fired on residents protesting against the militia ballot.
High Street and Bridge Street have most of the shops, and Polson Park offers a flat green space close to the centre. The town's ridge-top location means many routes into the countryside involve slopes, so patients often build up from level pavements to gentle inclines.
Housing includes stone cottages, miners' rows, inter-war council homes and large newer estates such as Windygoul, with more going up near Macmerry. Many residents commute to Edinburgh, but there is also a large older population who have lived in the area all their lives.
NHS Lothian provides local health services. The East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington offers some care, while operations and emergencies usually take place at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Our home physiotherapy continues rehabilitation locally.
Goals we hear include walking down High Street to the shops, managing the slopes on the waggonway path, or getting back to the bowling club.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.

Personalised, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic support delivered in the comfort of your home by an HCPC-registered dietitian.
