Physiotherapy Services in Troon
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Troon premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Troon is a coastal town in South Ayrshire, built on a small headland on the Firth of Clyde, with long sandy beaches on either side. It is world famous for golf: Royal Troon regularly hosts the Open Championship, and the town has several other courses. The harbour, built in the nineteenth century to export coal from the Duke of Portland's pits, now hosts fishing boats and a marina.
The town centre around Templehill, Portland Street and Ayr Street has independent shops and cafés, and the seafront offers flat promenade walking with views of Arran and Ailsa Craig. South Beach and the walk out to Barassie are popular with families and dog walkers alike.
Troon is a popular retirement destination, with large Victorian and Edwardian villas, sandstone tenements and bungalows. Many of our patients are older people who have moved here for the coast and want to keep enjoying it after illness or surgery.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran runs local health services, working with South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership. Troon patients are usually treated at University Hospital Ayr or University Hospital Crosshouse near Kilmarnock. Our private home physiotherapy continues their rehabilitation.
Troon station has trains to Glasgow and Ayr, and Barassie station serves the north of town. Common aims include walking on the seafront, returning to golf or managing the train again.
On a clear day the jagged peaks of Arran fill the horizon across the water, and the Ballast Bank, a grassy mound built from ships' ballast beside the harbour, gives one of the best viewpoints in town. Fullarton Woods, on the southern edge near Loans, has broad woodland tracks that suit people who are ready for something a little longer than the promenade, and the seafood restaurants by the harbour make a popular reward at the end of a walk.
