Wells-next-the-Sea is a small harbour town on the north Norfolk coast. Despite its name, the town now sits a little way back from the open sea, linked by a winding channel.
The quay is the heart of the town, overlooked by the tall Granary with its overhanging gantry. Fishing boats and pleasure craft tie up alongside.
The quayside is broad and level, with benches facing the harbour. It is one of the best places in town for gentle walking practice.
A long embankment path and a small railway link the quay with the beach. The beach is famous for its colourful huts on stilts, backed by pine woods.
Staithe Street, the main shopping street, climbs gently from the quay. It is narrow, so we practise steady walking among other shoppers.
Most planned operations for this area mostly take place at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital or the Queen Elizabeth in King's Lynn. We visit you at home afterwards.
The Buttlands, a large tree-lined green surrounded by Georgian houses, lies just south of the centre. Its paths are flat and peaceful.
Many homes are flint cottages and narrow town houses with steep stairs. We plan stair and transfer work around the space you have.
Holkham, to the west, is home to Holkham Hall and its vast park. Wighton and Warham are small villages inland among the fields.
Stiffkey lies to the east along the salt marshes, while Burnham Overy is further west. Walsingham, inland, is famous for its pilgrimage shrines.
Many retired people live here and want to keep enjoying the coast. Strength and balance work helps them walk the quay and the beach paths with confidence.

Personalised, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic support delivered in the comfort of your home by an HCPC-registered dietitian.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.
