We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Whaley Bridge premises to walk into. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Whaley Bridge is a small town in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, set where the River Goyt meets the Todd Brook. Steep hills rise on every side.
The town grew up around the end of the Peak Forest Canal. Its stone transhipment warehouse, built over the water, once moved goods between boats and the railway.
The Cromford and High Peak Railway began here, with a steep incline that hauled wagons up the hill. The route is now a footpath through the town.
The canal basin is level and quiet, with benches and a towpath leading north. It is an ideal place for early walking practice.
In 2019 part of the Toddbrook Reservoir dam was damaged after heavy rain, and the town was evacuated for several days. The dam has since been rebuilt.
Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport performs much of the planned surgery for this area, with some at Macclesfield. Our team continues your care in your own home.
Market Street, the main road through the town, climbs from the river. Side streets are often very steep, which makes them useful later in recovery.
Many homes are stone terraces with steep stairs and steps to the front door. We practise those steps and stairs at every visit.
Furness Vale lies just to the north along the canal. Horwich End sits at the southern end of the town on the road towards Buxton.
Fernilee and Taxal lie in the Goyt Valley to the south, among woods and reservoirs. Chinley and Buxworth are villages to the east.
Many clients here hope to get back out on the hills. We build strength steadily so that slopes and rough paths become manageable again.
