Physiotherapy Services in Whitefield
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Whitefield premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Whitefield is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury in Greater Manchester, on the main road between Manchester and Bury. Its odd district name, Besses o' th' Barn, comes from an old inn and is famous for the Besses o' th' Barn Band, one of the oldest brass bands in the world. All Saints Church at Stand, built in the 1820s, is a landmark on the hill.
Bury New Road is lined with shops, cafés and restaurants, and Whitefield has a large and long-established Jewish community, with synagogues, kosher food shops and schools. Philips Park, in Prestwich next door, offers woodland walks and nature trails, while the Irwell Sculpture Trail runs along the river nearby.
Housing is mostly inter-war and post-war semi-detached homes, with Victorian houses in Stand and newer estates in Unsworth. Many residents are older people and families, and our patients often want to get back to synagogue, church, the shops or visiting grandchildren.
NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board plans local services. Whitefield patients are usually treated at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury or North Manchester General Hospital. Our private home physiotherapy continues their recovery once they are home.
Whitefield and Besses o' th' Barn Metrolink stops give direct trams to Manchester and Bury. Patients often want to use the tram, walk along Bury New Road or attend services again.
Whitefield sits along Bury New Road, and the Metrolink stop links it quickly with Manchester city centre and Bury market. All Saints Church at Stand, an imposing Georgian Gothic building, is a well-known landmark, and the Besses o' th' Barn brass band, among the oldest in the country, takes its name from the old inn here. The Outwood Trail follows a former railway line towards Radcliffe and Prestwich with a smooth, level surface, making it ideal for early outdoor sessions with a walking aid.
