Physiotherapy Services in Whithorn
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Whithorn premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Whithorn is a small town near the southern tip of the Machars peninsula in Dumfries and Galloway. It is often called the cradle of Christianity in Scotland.
St Ninian is said to have founded a church here around the year 400, and Whithorn became a major place of pilgrimage. Kings and commoners travelled here for centuries.
The ruins of Whithorn Priory stand behind the main street, with a museum of carved early Christian stones. The site is quiet and mostly level.
The Whithorn Story visitor centre explains the town's long history. Nearby, a reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse shows how people lived here long before Ninian.
George Street, the wide main street, is lined with colourful houses. It is broad and fairly level, which suits walking practice.
The Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer and Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary provide most care for this area. Our therapists continue your recovery at home.
Many homes are stone terraces with steep stairs, along with farmhouses on the peninsula. We plan exercises to fit the space you have.
The Isle of Whithorn, a small harbour village to the south-east, has the ruins of St Ninian's Chapel on its headland. Its harbour front is flat and pleasant.
St Ninian's Cave, on the shore to the south-west, is reached by a woodland path and a pebbly beach. It is a goal for the later stages of recovery.
Garlieston and Sorbie lie to the north along the coast and inland. Glasserton, Monreith and Kirkinner are scattered communities across the Machars.
Many clients here live some way from shops and services. Strength and balance work helps them stay independent in their homes.

Personalised, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic support delivered in the comfort of your home by an HCPC-registered dietitian.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.
