Physiotherapy Services in Bridport
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Bridport premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Bridport is a market town in West Dorset, a mile or so inland from the Jurassic Coast. For centuries it was famous for making rope and fishing nets, and its unusually wide streets were laid out so ropes could be twisted and dried along them.
The Wednesday and Saturday street markets fill South Street, East Street and West Street with stalls selling produce, crafts and antiques. Bridport Arts Centre and the Electric Palace host films, music and theatre, while the town hall clock tower is a familiar landmark.
West Bay, the town's harbour, has dramatic golden cliffs made famous by the television drama Broadchurch. The South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs towards Golden Cap, the highest point on England's south coast.
Housing includes Georgian townhouses, Victorian terraces, post-war estates and newer developments, with many residents living in surrounding villages. Hills and steep cliffs make walking challenging for those recovering from illness or injury.
NHS Dorset Integrated Care Board plans local services. Bridport Community Hospital offers some care, while surgery and emergencies usually take place at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. We continue rehabilitation at home.
Goals include browsing the street market, walking at West Bay or climbing Golden Cap again.
Bridport hats, Palmers Brewery's thatched brewhouse at Old Bridport and the Hive Beach café at Burton Bradstock are all places patients mention when we ask what they miss. The town's Hat Festival each September sees residents in remarkable headgear, and Bridport Museum on South Street explains the netting trade, including goal nets for Wimbledon and Wembley. Colmer's Hill, the distinctive pine-topped mound by Symondsbury, is a favourite landmark that many people would like to climb once their legs allow.
