Physiotherapy Services in Canterbury
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Canterbury. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist visiting you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Canterbury is a cathedral city in east Kent. Its centre, inside and around the medieval city walls, includes Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church, which together form a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Great Stour runs through it. Beyond the centre are residential areas such as Wincheap, Thanington, St Dunstan's, Hales Place and Harbledown, with Sturry to the north-east. The wider district, run by Canterbury City Council, also includes the coastal towns of Whitstable and Herne Bay. These are names for context, not a list of places we promise to reach. Coverage varies by postcode and therapist availability, so check your postcode below.
Kent and Canterbury Hospital on Ethelbert Road is run by East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, which also runs the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. Depending on the treatment, people living in Canterbury may have an operation or emergency care at any of these sites and then come home to recover. We are independent of the trust, so please keep your discharge letter and any precautions to share with your physiotherapist.
The city has an unusually wide mix of housing. Near the walls there are medieval and Georgian buildings and narrow terraces with winding staircases and uneven floors. Further out are Victorian terraces, inter-war semis and post-war estates, and because Canterbury has two universities, some older houses have been divided into flats. In Whitstable and Herne Bay, homes include seafront bungalows as well as houses on steeper ground. These are examples; your physiotherapist works with your actual home.
In the city centre, cobbles, narrow pavements and busy shopping streets can make walking outdoors harder than it looks. Goals might include walking to the shops inside the walls, along the river path, to a bus stop on Wincheap or Sturry Road, or along the seafront at Whitstable or Herne Bay. We build towards those goals step by step.
