Physiotherapy Services in Medway
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Medway. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist visiting you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Medway is a unitary authority in north Kent. Since 1998 it has been run by Medway Council rather than Kent County Council, although it remains part of the ceremonial county of Kent. It brings together several towns along the River Medway: Strood on the west bank, Rochester with its cathedral and castle, Chatham with the Historic Dockyard, Gillingham, and Rainham to the east. To the north lies the Hoo Peninsula, with villages such as Hoo St Werburgh and High Halstow. This page describes Medway as one area. It is not a promise that a visit is possible at a particular address. Coverage varies by postcode and therapist availability, so please enter your postcode below.
Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham, run by Medway NHS Foundation Trust, is the main hospital for the area, and many people come home from there after a fracture, a fall, a stroke or a planned operation. Because Medway has its own council, equipment, social care and some community services are arranged differently from the rest of Kent. We are independent of the NHS and of the council. If a community team is already supporting you, tell us and we will plan around it.
Medway's housing reflects its history. Long Victorian terraces climb the hills around Chatham, Gillingham and Rochester, often with steep internal stairs and steps up from the pavement. Post-war estates in areas such as Twydall, Lordswood and Walderslade have different layouts again, and newer flats and houses near Chatham Maritime and along the riverside often have lifts and level entrances. These are examples only; the physiotherapist works with the stairs, bathroom and doorways in your own home.
Medway is steep in places, especially around Chatham and Rochester, where roads rise sharply from the river. Outdoor goals often include managing those slopes, getting to a bus stop, reaching the shops on Rochester High Street or in Chatham town centre, or walking along the riverside at Chatham Maritime or the Strand in Gillingham. We set goals with you and build up in steps.
We have kept Medway on one page rather than writing a separate page for each town. Maidstone, further up the river to the south, and Canterbury, further east, have their own pages.
