Physiotherapy Services in Cookstown
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Cookstown premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Cookstown in County Tyrone was laid out in the eighteenth century by the landlord William Stewart around an extraordinarily long and wide main street, one of the longest in Ireland. The street changes name several times along its length, with shops, churches and the Burnavon arts centre lining both sides.
Killymoon Castle, designed by John Nash, stands beside the Ballinderry River on the edge of town, with a golf course in its grounds. A short drive away, Wellbrook Beetling Mill, run by the National Trust, is the last working water-powered linen mill in Northern Ireland. Drum Manor Forest Park, west of town, has woodland, lakes and gentle paths.
The town sits between Lough Neagh and the Sperrin Mountains, and the Beaghmore stone circles lie in the hills to the north west. Cookstown itself is fairly level along the main street, though side streets slope towards the river. Housing ranges from Georgian and Victorian terraces to large modern estates.
The Northern Health and Social Care Trust provides health and social care, with emergencies usually going to Antrim Area Hospital and some services at the Mid Ulster Hospital in Magherafelt. Our private home physiotherapy fits alongside these services after discharge.
Patients often want to walk the main street, attend church or Mass, or visit Drum Manor. Because the main street is so long, building stamina is often as important as strength, and we plan rests along the way.
