Physiotherapy Services in Featherstone
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Featherstone premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Featherstone is a former mining town in the Wakefield district, between Pontefract and Normanton. It is famous for rugby league, and Featherstone Rovers have played at their Post Office Road ground for more than a century.
In 1893 troops opened fire on striking miners at Ackton Hall Colliery, an event remembered locally as the Featherstone Massacre. The pits have long closed, but mining heritage remains strong in the clubs, memorials and community groups.
Purston Park, on the eastern side of town, has a lake, mature trees and surfaced paths that suit gentle walking. Station Lane is the main shopping street, with smaller parades in North Featherstone and Purston.
Housing is largely brick terraces built for colliery workers, along with post-war council estates, bungalows and newer homes on former pit land. Many older terraces have steep stairs and a step into the back yard.
Featherstone sits within NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. Patients are normally treated at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield or Pontefract Hospital, and we continue their rehabilitation privately once they are home.
Featherstone station is on the line between Wakefield and Pontefract, and buses run to both towns. Many people want to walk Station Lane again, get round Purston Park or return to the terraces at Post Office Road on match day.
The lakeside loop at Purston Park is level with benches, so it is a good first outdoor route after a period of illness or surgery.
Getting to a Rovers match involves crowds, kerbs and terrace steps, so we practise those steps and standing time well before the first home game.
