Physiotherapy Services in Glossop
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Glossop premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Glossop is a Pennine town in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, at the foot of the Snake Pass that climbs over to Sheffield. It has two distinct parts: Old Glossop, a cluster of stone cottages around the parish church, and Howard Town, the mill town laid out by the Dukes of Norfolk in the nineteenth century. Norfolk Square, with its gardens and war memorial, is the heart of the modern town.
Manor Park, once the grounds of the Duke's Glossop Hall, has level paths, a lake and a miniature railway, which makes it ideal for early walks. Bleaklow and Kinder Scout rise above the town, and the Longdendale Trail, a former railway line from Hadfield, runs flat and smooth past a chain of reservoirs. Hadfield itself became famous as Royston Vasey in The League of Gentlemen.
Housing is dominated by stone terraces built for millworkers, with steep stairs and front steps straight onto the pavement, along with post-war estates at Gamesley and newer homes at Simmondley. Many streets are steep and many older residents rely on buses or family for transport.
Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board plans NHS care for Glossop, although local patients are usually treated at Tameside General Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyne or Stepping Hill in Stockport. Our private home physiotherapy continues their recovery at home.
Glossop and Hadfield stations have trains to Manchester Piccadilly. People here often want to get back to Norfolk Square for the shops, walk the Longdendale Trail again or take the train into Manchester.
