Physiotherapy Services in Jarrow
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Jarrow premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Jarrow is a town on the south bank of the Tyne in South Tyneside, best known for the Jarrow March of 1936, when 200 men walked to London to protest about unemployment after the shipyard closed. It is also linked with the Venerable Bede, who lived and wrote at the monastery of St Paul's in the seventh and eighth centuries.
Jarrow has many terraced streets and Tyneside flats near the centre, along with estates of semi-detached homes in Primrose, Fellgate and Simonside. Many older people live in upstairs flats, where internal stairs and steps outside can be difficult after a fall or operation.
St Paul's church and Jarrow Hall sit beside a green space on the riverside, which makes for a pleasant level walk. Jarrow Park and the Monkton area offer more open space, and the Metro station makes trips to the coast possible once stamina has improved.
South Tyneside District Hospital in South Shields is the main local hospital, run by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, and some people are treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. We are a private, independent service and can pick up from the advice your NHS team gave you.
Jarrow is known for the 1936 Jarrow March and for St Paul's, where Bede lived and wrote. Today the town is a mix of older Tyneside flats, inter-war council estates in Primrose and Monkton, and newer housing close to the river and the Tyne Tunnel approach.
